In Celebration of DVD Release of Up, Disney Sends Child Up in an Experimental Helium Balloon

To mark the release of the Disney/Pixar film Up, Disney has sent one lucky six year old “Up” on the ride of his life. In a controversial move Disney has shot up in the air an unaccompanied minor in an experimental balloon. Just as a Disney spokesperson was about to make the DVD announcement the Balloon and child floated away out of sight.

The bizarre stunt played out live on television as the balloon flying thousands of feet above head, tipping precariously at times before gliding to the ground.

Cathy Davis of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department told reporters that the Disney balloon took off in Fort Collin Colorado while spectators gazed over head.

“We’ll just have to respond the best we can,” Davis said. “This is a first and we’ll do what we need to do.”

She said that Disney was in contact with experts to provide details on the craft, including what it’s made of and what might happen when it reaches the ground.

A Disney executive mentioned he hoped the child would have a great adventure just like in the movie!
